AS BYE BYE MATTRESS TURNS NINE, THE PROGRAM IS YIELDING significant savings and benefits. According to its latest filed annual reports in Connecticut and Rhode Island, between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024, more than 280,000 mattresses were collected and more than 5,000 tons of material, (including steel, foam, fiber and wood), were recycled.

Since Mattress Recycling Council’s programs began in 2015, more than 2.4 million mattresses have been recycled in the Northeast.

“The mattresses we collect are recycled locally, providing jobs and turning valuable materials into new products like carpet padding, insulation and a variety of steel products,” said Dan McGowan, MRC’s Northeast program manager. “Mattress recycling is working for residents and businesses while saving Connecticut municipalities an estimated $3.25 million annually."
